Location: The Heritage Foundation's Lehrman Auditorium
One of the most astute observers of the Beijing scene, Willy Lam
has been analyzing and reporting on China's leadership and their
policies for more than two decades. His latest book, Chinese
Politics in the Hu Jintao Era: New Leaders, New Challenges, is
based on hundreds of interviews with top Chinese officials. It
provides a comprehensive, multi-dimensional look at the leadership
taking China into the 21st Century.
In an informal conversation with Carl Minzner of the Center for
Strategic and International Studies and Ambassador Harvey Feldman
of Heritage's Asian Studies Center, Willy will discuss the rise of
Hu Jintao and the "Fourth Generation" leadership, and their
essential traits and biases, including the apparent tightening of
controls on all forms of dissent as well as information flow.
Implications for U.S. policy will certainly be examined. Books will
be available for purchase and to be signed by the Author.
