In a day of volatile national security threats, America faces a
new challenge within the realm of terrorism. Not fought with
conventional weapons, this battle is waged in a high-tech field
with an invisible enemy. It requires that we diligently protect the
integrity of our financial system, fight financial crime, and
enforce economic sanctions against rogue nations. Join us as
Undersecretary Stuart Levey addresses these critical components for
fighting - and winning - the Financial War on Terror.
STUART A. LEVEY directs the U.S. Treasury's efforts to cut the
lines of financial support to international terrorists, a critical
component of the overall effort to keep America safe from terrorist
plots. In addition to leading the Office of Terrorism and Financial
Intelligence, he also oversees the Department's newly created
Office of Intelligence and Analysis, ensuring that actionable
intelligence is available to key decision-makers and that the
Department is fully integrated within the broader intelligence
community. Prior to coming to Treasury, Mr. Levey served as the
Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department
of Justice. In that capacity, he was the Deputy Attorney General's
primary staff member with responsibility for coordinating the
Justice Department's varied counterterrorism activities, including
investigations, intelligence collection and prosecutions. He also
served as the Justice Department's representative to the
interagency Terrorist Financing Policy Coordinating Committee (PCC)
and to the NSC's Counterterrorism Security Group, a senior
interagency group chaired by the Deputy National Security Advisor
for Combating Terrorism. Prior to assuming that position, he served
as the Deputy Attorney General's Chief of Staff. Before joining the
Justice Department in 2001, Mr. Levey spent 11 years in private
practice at a Washington law firm.
