Location: The Heritage Foundation's Lehrman Auditorium
Jason's DeParle's new book, American Dream: Three Women, Ten
Kids, and The Nation's Drive to End Welfare, is an insightful
look at welfare reform, poverty and the underclass. It examines the
evolution of welfare reform in policy circles in Washington as well
as the impact of reform on the lives of inner city families. Our
discussion will focus on the lessons presented in the book
concerning the effects of welfare reform, the nature of the
underclass, and the prospects for the future.
