Russian Elections and Beyond: Economics, Politics and Foreign Affairs

( View PowerPoint Presentation)

Location: The Heritage Foundation's Lehrman Auditorium

The state of Russian politics continues to raise concerns in Washington, with the crackdown on top business leaders, a push for economic integration within the CIS, and with outreach to the Islamic world, including energy partnerships with Saudi Arabia. Additionally, international observers characterized the 2003 Duma election as "free but, not fair."

What lessons are to be learned from the U.S.-Russian relations in the 1990s? Will recent events negatively affect Russia's internal development and rapprochement with the United States? What can be done to salvage Russia's efforts to democratize and make its economy fully compatible with the West?

Please join us as these and other fascinating questions are examined regarding the future of Russia.
