This year government spending will exceed $21,000 per household for the first time since World War II and it continues to grow at an unsustainable rate. One of the main causes of this is the wasteful manner in which many of our federal funds are spent. Government waste is a symptom of ineffective government. Combating waste does not imply hostility toward government, but rather a desire to strengthen government programs so that they can serve more constituents effectively. Cutting wasteful spending today will save money, not only in the current budget, but also in future budgets as well.
Senator Sam Brownback (R-KA) has proposed the creation of a bipartisan Commission on the Accountability and Review of Federal Agencies (CARFA) Act that would evaluate whether domestic Federal agencies and programs use taxpayer dollars effectively. Significant savings from CARFA could be directed toward higher Congressional priorities such as paying down the national debt. Heritage invites you to join Senator Brownback as he unveils his ambitious plan to shine a light on duplicative, wasteful, inefficient, outdated, irrelevant or failed federal programs.
