Heritage Event: Beyond the Middle East: In Search of Energy Security

Location:
The Heritage Foundation's Van Andel Center

Looking beyond the unstable Middle East, the United States finds oil and gas reserves which are abundant and transportable. Canada, Russia, the Caspian, Africa and Latin America are capable, taken together, to provide feasible alternatives to our dependency on energy from one of the most unstable regions in the world. The impact of warfare in the Gulf -- the main source of oil in the world -- on oil prices, outputs, and markets is going to be undeniable. Therefore U.S. policy makers and corporations need to begin to look for new ways to diversify U.S. energy imports to maintain U.S. energy security. Please join us on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at 12 noon as we explore potential energy strategies the U.S. could pursue in these regions.
