Over the past 12 months, America's economy has grown 3.5 percent while unemployment has dipped to 4.6 percent. During this period of economic growth, all Americans have benefited.
"The gains from America’s economic growth have been widely shared throughout society," James Sherk writes. "Low- and middle-income families, not just the wealthy, have seen their standards of living improve dramatically."
Still, some claim that this growth has left low- and middle-income Americans behind. But, as Sherk points out, "The analysts who claim that most Americans are falling behind rely on incomplete and misleading statistics. In fact, workers’ total compensation has risen significantly since 2000, and this does not just reflect the higher cost of health care."
