Public School Choice:
Montana offers limited choice within its public education system but does offer inter-district and intra-district public school choice.
Private School Choice:
Montana does not offer private school choice.
Montana is one of only 8 states that have yet to pass charter school legislation.
According to the Keeping Pace with K-12 Online Learning report, Montana has a state-led virtual program that also provides online courses to school districts. However, there are no full-time online charter schools. The 2010-2011 school year was Montana Digital Academy’s (MTDA) first year of operation, and it reported 4,551 course enrollments.
