Means-tested welfare spending nearly rivals the combined cost of Social Security and Medicare, and President Obama's response has been to continue the permanent enlargement of the system. According to the President's budget plans, means-tested welfare is likely to equal or exceed $10.3 trillion over the next decade. Much of this spending will be financed by massive government deficits, placing larger and larger financial burdens on future generations.

The welfare provisions in the Senate stimulus bill are very similar to those in the House bill. Both bills use the idea of economic stimulus as a Trojan horse to conceal massive, permanent increases in the U.S. welfare system. The goal of the bills is "spreading the wealth," not reviving the economy.
