Dani Doane, a veteran government relations manager, is the Director of Government Relations at The Heritage Foundation.

Doane has held several positions at Heritage. She originally joined Heritage in 2002, as the Director of House Relations, eventually becoming Director of Government Relations. After starting the Government Relations department at Heritage Action for America, and a stint in the B. Kenneth Simon Center as a Program Manager, Doane re-joined the department.

Doane is responsible for educating members of Congress and their staffs about the think tank’s mission as well as its latest research and policy solutions. She organizes think tank’s events where Members gather to discuss policy issues with some of the top thinkers of the day. She also organizes another premier Heritage event, the bi-annual “new member orientation” for newly elected U.S. representatives and senators.

She previously was Government Affairs Director of Citizens for a Sound Economy, where she communicated the group’s research to officials in the executive and legislative branches and built relationships with other conservative groups.

Doane worked on Capitol Hill for five years, first as Rep. Dan Miller’s legislative assistant on appropriations and budget issues, then as the Florida Republican’s Legislative Director and Chief of Staff. (Miller didn’t seek re-election in 2002, honoring his self-imposed term limit of 10 years.)

As Miller’s aide on matters before the House Appropriations Committee, Doane was responsible for ensuring that his legislative proposals would limit federal spending. Her primary assignments included the departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services. As Chief of Staff, she managed Miller’s office and the work of the Government Reform Committee’s census subcommittee, where Miller was Chairman.

Doane holds a master’s degree in International Management from the University of Maryland. She received her bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.
