Drastic Benefit Cuts When the Trust Fund is Exhausted

This is what happens under the "do nothing" plan. Do nothing to fix Social Security, and benefit cuts are the only thing guaranteed under current law. In 2042, when the Trust Fund runs dry, benefits would be cut by 27 percent. But it doesn't stop there. Benefits would keep getting cut for the foreseeable future.
