Statutory Provision

Utah Code.  Tit. 30, Chap. 1, § 2.   Marriages prohibited and void.

The following marriages are prohibited and declared void: 

(5) between persons of the same sex.

Constitutional Provision

Utah Const.  Art. I, § 29.  [Marriage.]

(1) Marriage consists only of the legal union between a man and a woman.

(2) No other domestic union, however denominated, may be recognized as a marriage or given the same or substantially equivalent legal effect.
