The Probability of Divorce for Women Who Cohabit or Have Sexual Relations with Another Before Marriage

This chart looks at the relationship between multiple sexual partners and the capacity for a stable marriage. Women who have sexual relationships with men other than their husbands are more likely to eventually divorce. Also, should they cohabit with someone other than their future husband, the probability that they will divorce increases still more. Monogamy (only one sexual partner in a lifetime) seems to be central to a stable marriage.
