Homicide Rates for Infants Under One, 1970-2000

The chart looks at the rate of infant homicides in the United States over 30 years. After a sharp increase in the rate during the 1970s and 1980s, a gradual rise in the rate infant homicide continues up to the most recent reports. Almost all infant homicides result from the mother?s actions. This objective measure is a key barometer of serious dysfunction in that mother-child relationship. Despite lack of clear demographic data on family structure in the United States, all indicators point toward the fractured family as the main source of this dysfunction.
