Newt Gingrich Live Webcast

WASHINGTON, JULY 15, 2009--Speaker Newt Gingrich will deliver a speech on national security and defense spending on Monday, July 20th at 10 am. The speech will be the closing address to Protect America Month, The Heritage Foundation's month-long campaign to raise awareness about the current issues facing our men and women in uniform.

Join us Monday, July 20th at 10am for a live webcast of Speaker Gingrich's remarks.

About Protect America Month

America's Armed Forces are under stress and at risk. The Obama Administration's plan to stop buying next-generation equipment means America's military could quickly lose its unrivaled primacy. President Barack Obama has proposed defense spending cuts to pay for domestic initiatives, and Defense Secretary Robert Gates offered significant modernization cuts within the defense budget for next year. Together, these will ensure military readiness falls even further.

Yet, America still faces serious threats in the world and now is not the time to weaken our military.

The Heritage Foundation began focusing on defense spending during its first-ever Protect America Month on June 1. To kick off the month, we had an address by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney on June 1. Throughout subsequent weeks, we released special publications and hosted events showcasing why we must commit to protecting America in an increasingly dangerous world. Protect America Month will conclude with the closing address by Speaker Gingrich on July 20.

Leadership for America

Protect America is one of the 10 major transformational initiatives in the Heritage Foundation's Leadership For America campaign.

For more than 30 years, The Heritage Foundation has provided leadership for America , building a movement that launched a presidency, defeated a tyranny and turned the course of history. Now in a new century, the threats to our nation continue to grow and expand. Yet while the American people increasingly want better answers and solutions they are getting more slogans and promises.

It becomes our task, then, to build on our accomplishments, complete the unfinished work of the day and confront the expanding challenges before us.
