WASHINGTON, January 20, 2009—Dr. Edwin Feulner, president of The Heritage Foundation, today issued the following statement upon the death of Holly Coors. All of us at Heritage are deeply saddened to learn of the death last night of Ambassador Holland H. Coors, long-time Heritage trustee and doyenne of the modern conservative movement. “Holly” Coors was appointed United States Ambassador to the National Year of the Americas by President Ronald Reagan. She went on to found, and serve as president of Women of Our Hemisphere Achieving Together. But it is her service as a philanthropist that the nation will remember her for most. An active member of the Board of Trustees of both the Adolph Coors Foundation and the Castle Rock Foundation, she helped found and sustain numerous conservative organizations—especially those with a firm commitment to uplifting the nation’s youth and preserving a place for religious life in the public square. From the earliest days of Heritage, as co-chairman of our “Heritage Ten” campaign, more than 25 years ago, Holly has been an inspiration to all of us who cherish the values of freedom and liberty throughout our land.We mourn her passing, even as we acknowledge that she is in a much better place today. Holly Coors was an elegant and inspiring advocate of traditional values and virtues, and we will miss her greatly. |
