Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld appointed Evan G. Galbraith as his Representative in Europe and the Defense Advisor to the U.S. Mission to NATO in September 2001. As such, Ambassador Galbraith plays a crucial role in the advancement of American defense policy as well as public diplomacy. The Heritage Foundation is pleased that he will join us to share his reflections on that which is genuinely at stake in Iraq and how we can advance – and indeed win – the battle of ideas in the Middle East.

Evan G. Galbraith was Ambassador to France under President Ronald Reagan and has lived in Europe more than twenty years, primarily as an investment banker. A graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School, he has previously served as an Advisory Director of Morgan Stanley, Chairman of the Board of National Review, and a member of the board of the Groupe Lagardere S.A. Paris. Until 1998 Ambassador Galbraith was Chairman of the Board of LVMH Moet Hennessy Locus Vultton Inc. New York. The Groupe Lagardere S.A. controls, together with Daimler Benz, EADS (European Aerospace and Defense Systems), Europe's largest defense contractor and principal owner of Airbus. Additionally, he served on active duty in the Navy from 1953-1957 attached to the Central Intelligence Agency.
