Washington’s “One China” policy has long isolated Taiwan from the international community and fostered

the misconception that the United States accepts Beijing’s claim to sovereignty over Taiwan’s people and territory. In 2004, The Heritage Foundation took a retrospective look at the flaws in a “One China” policy. This follow-on conference will address how the "One China” policy might realistically be changed or adjusted in the context of America's strategic commitment to the global expansion of democracy. Join us as our distinguished scholars take a deeper look into U.S. strategic interests in Taiwan and the Western Pacific and explore alternative policy options.
