As the creation of a Department of Homeland Security becomes a reality, it is critical to ensure that the myriad of organizations and agencies involved are consolidated appropriately. One of the most important areas to ensure consolidation of resources is in First Responder support and training programs. There are currently over a half dozen First Responder programs at the federal level, with many more at state and local levels. These programs will require a significant coordination effort by the new Department of Homeland Security, as well as new challenges for First Responders.
