The nation is growing increasingly concerned about energy.  Americans’ demand for energy is increasing faster than secure supplies.  Much of the world’s supply of oil is delivered in a cartel market dominated by unstable or hostile nations, some of which are using energy as a tool to frustrate U.S. national security and foreign policy objectives.  Meanwhile, many Americans harbor misunderstandings and myths about energy and market forces.  They want low energy prices and plentiful supply, but resist the steps that energy companies must take to achieve these goals.  This confusion leads their representatives in Congress to create conflicting policies that harm America’s ability to meet its energy needs.  This has to change.

Robert Bradley, Jr. is President of the Institute for Energy Research in Houston and one of the nation’s leading experts on the history and regulation of energy and related sustainable development issues.  Dr. Bradley will discuss some of the core principles necessary for efficient and effective U.S. energy policy, followed by a panel of Heritage experts who will review energy legislation currently under consideration in Congress.
