The connection between China’s economic performance and political liberalization has been much debated in policy circles.  Is the slowing of Chinese economic reforms attributable to the hardwiring of its communist political culture?  And, is this impasse a precursor to failure?  Or, has the connection between economic and political reform always been simply a self-serving American “fantasy”?

Join our discussion with leading proponents in this debate, two authors who hold rather different views on where China may be headed and the assumptions we make about our relationship.
