At the same time the scientific evidence is pointing away from catastrophic global warming scenarios, the European experience in addressing the issue has proven both costly and ineffective.  Few have commented on these and other aspects of the global warming debate as presciently as Christopher Monckton.  Lord Monckton has written and lectured extensively on the many scientific exaggerations and outright inaccuracies used to justify draconian global warming measures.  And his insights into the United Kingdom’s failed climate policy efforts are of particular relevance to an American audience, as President Obama and many in Congress have pledged to follow a very similar carbon cap and trade approach.  Lord Monckton will also discuss the geopolitical implications of climate policy, including the unwillingness of China and other major developing nations to jeopardize economic development by constraining their energy use, as well as the relevant lessons from the recent Russian cutoff of Ukrainian gas.

Lord Monckton, Third Viscount Monckton of Brenchley, was Special Advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher from 1982 to 1986 on a wide range of scientific and engineering issues, including global warming.
A much sought-after consultant, he currently serves as the Chief Policy Advisor for the Washington, D.C.-based Science and Public Policy Institute.
