ENTERING AMERICA: Challenges Facing the US-VISIT Program

The United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology (US-VISIT) program, the Department of Homeland Security’s automated entry/exit system, went into effect on January 5th of this year. Its goal is to enhance the security of U.S. citizens and visitors, facilitate legitimate travel, ensure the integrity of the immigration system, and safeguard the privacy of visitors.

Many questions remain with regard to the implementation of US-VISIT. When will US-VISIT be implemented at the land borders? Has the exit aspect of US-VISIT been implemented? What safeguards are in place to ensure the privacy of travelers?

As Director of the US-VISIT program, James Williams has spearheaded the effort in the development and implementation of this program. Prior to his position at DHS, Director Williams was Deputy Associate Commissioner for Program Management for the Internal Revenue Service's business systems modernization program. Please join us as Director Williams addresses the timely issue of the US-VISIT program and other aspects of homeland security.
