The Protect America Act, signed into law in August 2007, updated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to exempt surveillance of communications between persons located outside of the United States when the communications happen to pass through domestic networks, a type of communications to which Congress never intended FISA to apply.  The bill expired on February 16, 2008, greatly complicating the task of the intelligence services and the telecommunications companies that must cooperate with them to make their efforts efficient and effective.  How significant is the law’s expiration for American national security?  Join us as Representative Peter Hoekstra, Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, addresses this pressing issue.
