Five years ago, the nation began a new and unexpected chapter of its history. After the attacks on our homeland on September 11, 2001, The Heritage Foundation, like most Americans and the U.S. Government, turned its focus on how the nation could quickly improve homeland security and national defense. After close to five years of significant action, we believe it is time to measure our progress and assess how far the nation has come. The Honorable James M. Inhofe, Senior U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, will introduce our National Security Report Card with his input on how far the nation has come – and how much farther we have to go – to secure America. Elected to the Senate in 1994, Senator Inhofe now resides as the second ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, a position that affords him a unique and well-versed perspective on this topic.
