Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge attempted to establish regional Department of Homeland Security offices. Current Secretary Michael Chertoff made strides to reorganize and streamline DHS last summer. This groundbreaking work has only just begun. As Hurricane Katrina showcased, communications among state, local, and federal officials must improve to prepare and respond to national catastrophes. As plans for improvement roll out, will the principles of federalism so important to our nation be maintained? A regional framework for the Department of Homeland Security will ensure that those principles are upheld while creating the most effective channels for preparedness and response.

Join us as our distinguished panel emphasizes the importance and practical application of a regional organization of DHS.
