Some commentators contend religious faith is at the root of the world’s worst acts of violence and atrocity. Lumping together all traditions, they identify belief in God as the common denominator behind every sort of hate, aggression and bloodshed. From war, genocide and slavery to discrimination, intolerance and persecution, we are told, “Religion poisons everything.”
But the record shows otherwise, writes attorney and former U.S. Senate Chief of Staff David Brog in his new book, In Defense of Faith. Examining the history of Western civilization, Brog demonstrates that the Judeo-Christian tradition has been the most effective tool in what he calls “the struggle for humanity.” Come hear him share what it is about “the Judeo-Christian idea” that advanced human rights and so effectively curbed violence and oppression down through the centuries.
As negative stereotypes of religion appear to be having an increasing impact, especially on our college campuses, Brog offers a most timely and effective rebuttal.
