She joined that group in January 2000 to develop its government affairs shop and was responsible for communicating the group's research to the executive and legislative branches. She also served as Coalitions Coordinator, finding ways for Citizens for a Sound Economy to work with other conservative groups.
Doane also worked on Capitol Hill for five years, first as a Legislative Assistant on appropriations and budget issues for Rep. Dan Miller (R-FL) then as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff for the congressman.
As the designated Appropriations Committee Associate in Miller's office, Doane provided oversight to help ensure that his legislative proposals limited federal spending. Her primary responsibilities included the departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and Education. As Chief of Staff, she managed Miller's office and the House Government Reform Committee's Census Subcommittee, which he chaired.
Doane is Heritage's Dorothy Moller Fellow in Congressional Relations. She holds a master's degree in international management from the University of Maryland and a bachelor's degree in international relations from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.
